Our Story
A Legacy Built on Vision and Craft
Tampa Bay Design Group began with one designer and a vision — to blend technical precision with timeless creativity. That vision started with our founder, Lee Curtis, who learned the art of design and construction working alongside his father at V.A. Curtis & Associates in Tampa Bay. From those early days drafting blueprints and walking construction sites, Lee discovered a passion for architecture that was as practical as it was inspired.
His first project — a 10-story condominium on Madeira Beach — set the stage for a lifelong commitment to excellence. From there, Lee developed a reputation for designing waterfront and luxury homes that celebrate both structure and soul. In 1984, he founded Curtis Home Design, a studio dedicated to thoughtful, client-focused architecture. Over the years, that studio evolved into what is now Tampa Bay Design Group, a team built on decades of expertise, collaboration, and innovation.
In 2012, a new chapter began when Lee Curtis met Joe Stewart. What started as a collaboration on a few select projects quickly grew into a dynamic partnership built on mutual respect, complementary skills, and a shared passion for design. Together, they cultivated a team culture defined by creativity, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of quality — a partnership that continues to shape the identity and success of Tampa Bay Design Group today.
Today, the firm carries forward Lee and Joe’s philosophy: that great design lives at the intersection of creativity and craftsmanship — between what’s imagined and what’s built. Each project we take on is a reflection of that legacy — grounded in experience, shaped by passion, and designed to stand the test of time.
Architect
JOSEPH P. STEWART
Joe is an experienced licensed Architect with extensive career history performing project management, construction administration and owner’s representation for multimillion dollar test facilities, laboratories, commercial and hospitality developments, and residential projects. Joe has developed practical knowledge, demonstrated through exceptional analytical and problem-solving expertise, essential to the successful completion of projects and is a proven leader who understands the necessity of building team relationships between Owner, Architect and Contractor to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule.

Lee Curtis
Lee Curtis began his career with his father at V.A. Curtis & Associates, Architect – Structural Engineer in Tampa Bay. His very first project was assisting in the design of a 10 story Condominium on Madeira Beach, where he worked as a carpenter foreman after the completion of the plans. Lee has established himself as a specialist in waterfront and luxury home design throughout Tampa Bay. Lee established Curtis Home Design in 1984 which has now become Tampa Bay Design Group.
